Children of compulsory school
age, up to age seventeen (17), are required by
law to attend an approved educational institution,
unless legally excused pursuant to Diocesan Policy
No. 4110. The school recognizes a number of specific
reasons for which a child may be excused from
school for all or part of a school day including,
but not limited to:
Observance or religious holidays;
Receipt of religious instruction;
Educational trips not sponsored by the school;
Attending medical or dental appointments which
cannot be arranged after school hours;
Illness;
Funeral;
Emergencies.
However, students will be marked absent or tardy.
Unexcused or unlawful absences include, but are
not limited to:
Truancy;
Parental neglect;
Illegal employment;
Pupils who run away from home;
Shopping;
Trips not approved in advance (See Vacation Policy).
All students are expected to report to school
on time. Parents are requested to call the office
prior to the opening school bell each day is absent.
In the event of an absence, students must bring
a written excuse from their parent or guardian
upon returning to school the first day after an
absence. The excuse must contain the following
information:
- Date of the note;
- Name and grade of the student;
- Date of the absence or tardiness;
- Reason for absence or tardiness;
- Signature of parent or guardian.
Make-up work is assigned at the
discretion of the teachers depending on the grade
level of the student and content missed. The student
is responsible for making up all the assignments
and tests missed during an absence from school.
Assignments are posted on YourHomework.com. The student will normally be permitted five (5)
school days to make up work missed. It is the
student's responsibility to obtain the assignments
and return them to the teacher at the time designated.
If work is not turned into the teacher within
the five (5) days the student will receive a zero
for any missed assignments. Excessive absence
may result in the school's inability to issue
grades for a particular period. Extended absence may result in a recommendation for tutoring and/or summer work before advancement.
