Our History

 

Queen of Angels Catholic School formed when the Immaculate Conception and St. Agnes schools merged at the end of the 1991-92 school year.

 

The school was established to provide quality Catholic education for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students from the Immaculate Conception, St. Agnes, St. Barbara and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parishes, as well as other children from North Huntingdon and surrounding areas.

 

1992-93             The school consisted of two facilities: the former Immaculate Conception building (Irwin) and the former St. Agnes building (North Huntingdon). Pre-kindergarten through third grade were available at both the Irwin and North Huntingdon sites while fourth through eighth were available at the St. Agnes site only.        

 

1993-94             An early childhood development center for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten existed in the Immaculate Conception building. First through eighth grades were located in St. Agnes.

 

1993-95             A study of the facilities recommended that the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes move to the North Huntingdon site.  During the summer of 1995, major renovations took place on the former St. Agnes convent building.  Volunteer parents completed the renovation work, which included the construction of a playground.

 

Effective July 1, 1995, Queen of Angels Catholic Regional School was formally sponsored by the four parishes of the region. Bishop Anthony G. Bosco appointed the pastors of St. Agnes Church, Immaculate Conception Church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and St. Barbara Church as the “members” (canonical administrators) of Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School. 

 

Feb. 23, 1999    Deterioration of the St. Agnes building was revealed and determined unsafe for children.

 

Feb. 26, 1999    A parent meeting determined plans to relocate the students.  Sites at Immaculate Conception in Irwin and St. Barbara in Harrison City were renovated. Mobile classrooms were put in place and classes resumed on March 8, 1999. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten remained at the early childhood center at St. Agnes. First through fourth grades relocated to the Immaculate Conception building.  The St. Barbara campus housed fifth through eighth grades.

 

Sept. 1999         Second through eighth graders relocated to the Sacred Heart building in Jeannette. Pre-kindergarteners and first graders relocated to the Immaculate Conception building.

 

Sept. 2005        Students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade entered a building purchased from Norwin School District located at One Main St.  Renovations throughout the summer were completed by volunteer families of students, teachers and staff. Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt dedicated the Bishop Bosco Center as home to Queen of Angels Catholic School.    

 

Queen of Angels Catholic School has gone through exceptional times.  Parent and community participation, dedication and support were evident and supportive along the way. God bless all of those who have kept the Spirit alive and thriving.
