Faith Formation Activities
Kentucky Project
Queen of Angels Catholic School is proud to be a sponsor for The Kentucky Project. This service project began as a suggestion from an eighth grade student in the Fall 2006.
The Kentucky Project is an outreach program from St. Barbara Parish in Harrison City. Currently, our school families provide food, cleaning and personal hygiene supplies for a family with seven children ranging in age from three to 16. The family lives in an impoverished area of Kentucky where there are no superstores or convenience stores. Each family has been selected based upon need.
Every month the classes in our school take turns collecting items to be sent to our special family. We have been fortunate to be able to send nearly four boxes each month full of food, cleaning and personal supplies. We have been especially blessed by the Christian Laymen organization in Greensburg, which drives our boxes to Kentucky each month for a very modest fee. This is a very worthwhile service project for the students in our school.
American Legion Awards
American Legion Post #359 recognizes one male and female eighth grade student who best exemplifies the qualities of honor, Americanism, service, leadership, scholarship and courage. Our faith calls us to display these characteristics as a reflection of Jesus within our community.
Pre-kindergarten Candlelight Prayer Service
Preschool parents and families join us in the chapel as we begin Catholic Schools Week each year. The children create candles to adorn the chapel, pray and sing songs to celebrate the light of Jesus within each of us and the gift of Catholic Education.
Liturgies
The liturgy is celebrated every Tuesday and on holy days of obligation. Each classroom has a scheduled opportunity to prepare and participate in the readings, leadership and songs of praise.
Living Stations
Bringing the path of the Lord to life during the Lenten season is a focal production of our Middle School students.
More Outreach Projects
Collections for the food bank and local families in need take place yearly. For instance, students participate in Make-A-Difference Day; Veterans celebrations, pre-kindergarten Community Friendship Tour for Valentine's Day and our community connection activities with the Irwin/North Huntingdon Chamber of Commerce. These projects connect our school and the local community.
Jesse Tree
This Advent project is presented by the Middle School students who depict the relationship of Jesus with Jesse, the father of King David, and other biblical personages.
Rosary Month of October
Classrooms honor Mary by taking turns leading a decade of the rosary at our Mary Garden.
Pastoral Support
Our parish priests and pastors come to the school as invited. They celebrate Mass, the sacraments and faith based programs. Counseling, retreats and attendance at special events during Catholic Schools Week and throughout the year are part of their mission. We are continually in their prayers as are they in ours.
May Crowning
Our seventh grade students work with our second grade students, who most recently received the sacrament of holy Communion for the first time, to honor Mary in song and prayer.
Eighth Grade Retreat
Eighth grade students gather at a local parish for contemplation, prayer, reflection, liturgy planning and participation.
All Saints Day
Middle School students research and bring the saints to life in a respectful production for the school.
