Awareness of God

Message     Doctrinal

 

·         Identifies God is with us everywhere, especially through His people and the Church

·         Recognizes Jesus as the visible sign of God’s love

·         Is helped to recognize that Jesus is both God and man - Incarnation

·         Is aware of our beliefs as Catholics as stated in the Nicene Creed

·         Describes faith as a way of believing, trusting, and living in our God

·         Explains that through Christ’s resurrection we are welcomed into a new life

·         Understands that abortion is the killing of an innocent life

·         Is aware that only God has the power to create life and to end it

·         Learns to accept people who are different from him/herself

·         Learns about sacramentals and recognizes the Church’s use of them

·         Learns and appreciates the Church’s Saints and Communion of Saints

·         Understands and appreciates the Church’s feasts and seasons

·         Identifies a sacrament as an outward sign, instituted by Christ, to give grace

·         Identifies the seven sacraments as life-giving rituals and symbols in which we grow closer to God

·         Recognizes that the grace of God is a special gift we receive when we receive the sacraments

·         Tells how Baptism calls us to new life, cleanses us from sin and welcomes us into the Christian community

·         Recognizes that Confirmation strengthens us and seals the bond we received at Baptism

·         Realizes that Reconciliation is a journey of conversion, which brings forgiveness which brings us closer to God and the Church

·         Identifies the presence and the sacrifice of Christ in the community meal of the Eucharist

·         Celebrates and receives Eucharist at the body an blood of Jesus

·         Witnesses Christ’s healing presence in our lives through the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

·         Recognizes the call to serve God’s people through the ministry of Holy Orders

·         Discusses the sacrament of Matrimony, as a life long covenant between man and woman

 

Worship     Liturgical

 

·         Participates in communal prayers and signs of forgiveness that are part of the Eucharistic Liturgy (Mass) : Lord have Mercy; Our Father; Sign of the Cross

·         Worships through Scripture, planned liturgies and prayer services

·         Describes sacramental celebrations as community worship

·         Explains basic elements of Liturgical year: Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Ordinary Time, Holy days, Major Marian feasts

·         Names and explains the significance of different liturgical colors for each season

·         Review the Mass and its major parts

·         Explains the Easter Triduum as the height of the Liturgical year

·         Is made aware of the Holy Days of Obligation

·         Celebrates the lives of saints as good Christian models for his/her life

 

 

Projects:

 

Rewrite and use illustrations creating a modern day version of The Lord’s Prayer

Through art (stain glass windows) and Scripture retell the story of Our Lord’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection

Create Resurrection crosses

Create Sacrament Books
