Awareness of God

Message  Doctrinal

·         Identifies self as Catholic

·         Describes the Church as a community of loving and caring people who believe Jesus and accept His teachings

·         Acknowledges the Risen Christ as active in our world through the work of the Holy Spirit

·         Explains the hope of Christians as the final reunion with God forever

·         Identifies the Trinity as the God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit

·         Recall that he/she becomes a fully initiated member of the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist – sacraments of Initiation

·         Describes Jesus’ presence in the Church through the Holy Spirit and the sacraments

·         Explains that Jesus’ followers are called “Christians”

·         Explains that the Ten Commandments are God’s Laws which teach us how to relate to God and one another

·         Reports the first three Commandments show love for God

·         Reports the last seven Commandments show love for others

·         Explain the Two Great Commandments

·         Studies and recognizes the role of the saints in the mission of the Church

·         Describes the Communion of Saints:

·         Describe the Church as carrying on the ministry of Jesus, e.g. teaching, celebrating, healing and serving

·         Describes the role of priest in the Church (teaching, sanctifying, governing)

·         Describes the role of lay women and men in the Church

·         Describes the role of religious women and men in the Church

·         Recalls the Church has leaders e.g. pope, bishops, priest, and deacons

·         Describes their role in the church to participate in mass, prayer services and daily prayer

 

 

Awareness of Values

Morality Personal

·         Reverences one’s own uniqueness as a child of God with special needs and talents

·         Recognizes his/her responsibility to forgive as Jesus did

·         Review sin as act which weaken one’s relationship with God

·         Reflects a sensitivity and personal respect for others

·         Reflects a sensitivity and personal respect for others’ property

 

Morality Social

·         Describes the Church as a community of loving, caring individuals

·         Recognizes that all followers of Christ are called to be kind to people who are suffering

·         Identifies circumstances in which his/her or other’s rights have been violated

·         Participates in experience of feeding the hungry

·         Recognizes just solutions to conflict/problems

·         Develops a respect for all human life.

·         Develops an awareness  for the need of others, e.g. elderly, handicapped, sick, oppressed, poor, or lonely

·         Describes family, school and global community as People of God with basic human rights

·         List some activities of the present pope and modern day heroes/heroines e.g. Dorothy Day, Mother Theresa of Calcutta, Pope John XXIII, Martin Luther King

·         Recognizes and identifies with some saints, e.g. Peter, John the Baptist

·         Describes how God made men and women equal partners

·         Defines marriage as a special way of loving and a sacrament

Worship Scriptural

·         Recalls that the Bible inspired by the Holy Spirit is the history of God’s saving His people

·         Recalls there are two part of the Bible: Old Testament and New Testament

·         Locates Book, Chapter, and Verse in the Bible

·         Identifies the four Gospels as the telling of the Jesus story

·         Identifies Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as Gospel writers

·         Retells some parables and miracles of Jesus, e.g. healing the sick, calming the storm, the Good Samaritan…

·         Identifies the Seven Sacraments

 

 

Worship Prayer

·         Recognizes psalms as prayers of the Jews and early Christians

·         Prayers with song, movement, and gesture (sign language)

·         Realizes that listening to Jesus is an element of prayer

·         Recites from memory formal prayer

Worship Sacraments

·         Experiences a deepening understanding of baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist as sacraments of initiation

·         Understands the rituals of reception of the Sacrament of Penance according ton his/her ability and moral development

·         Describes Anointing of the Sick as a sacrament for those in need of healing of the body, mind or spirit

 

Worship Liturgical

·         Defines liturgy as celebrating the Good News that Jesus is risen, is alive, and is with us now

·         Describes ways Jesus is present in the Eucharistic Liturgy (mass)

·         Practices ministerial services according to his/her ability as lector, gift bearer, altar server, etc.

·         Identifies the two main parts of the Eucharistic Liturgy (mass)  Liturgy of the Word, and Liturgy of the Eucharist

  • Describes the significance of Church feast and seasons through verbal/artistic forms of express, e.g. Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension,
  • Deepens awareness through celebrations of feast days, Holy Days and Liturgical Seasons
  • Connects church seasons and seasonal celebration
